I’m always late to the party

I haven’t owned a video game console since the PS2 when I was young. I just never gamed much. But I’ve been really into playing older titles lately on emulators or my actual Game Boy Advance.

I think it may be a small dissociation from the stresses piling up in life lately. A little way to return to my childhood and not feel so much damn pressure in life.

Anyways… I’ve been mulling over some retro handhelds (TrimUI brick, Miyoo Mini+, Anbernic devices, etc) and finally settled on the decision to buy an OLED Nintendo Switch. Not exactly RETRO, but I’m definitely late to the party on getting one.

I figure it will still get some decent games for a short while, it already has an immense library, and it gives access to old SNES/GB/N64/GBA games that would basically be my retro emulator device anyways.

I picked up Smash Bros Ultimate as a starter game because I absolutely loved the original on N64. It just feels good. I will probably be getting some more casual games here soon.

I can see why people were so excited about it back when it released. Nintendo just knows how to make gaming feel special and cozy in a way the others never have.. to me, anyway. Maybe that’s why I fell off from gaming when I was young? The other companies made it too serious or intense. That’s just not my style.

So, that’s my big blog post for now. Bought a Switch and a game today and it excited a part of me that hasn’t been lit up in a very, very long time. The little victories mean much more in the current world it seems.
